Muscovy Ducks, Cairina moschata
are recognized by their colorful red wattle, or caruncle. 
The muscovy ducklings are born without the red on the face or around the eyes. They slowly acquire that distinctive look. Below: mother and brood. 
Due to hybridization in the wild and other cross breeding, the Muscovy comes in a variety of colors and plumage. |
