Epilobium - from the Greek epi- (upon) and lobos (pod, capsule) -
the flower and capsule appear together, the corolla being borne on the end of the ovary
canum - ash-colored, gray, hoary (the leaves)
Zauschneria - Named for Prof. Johann Baptista Josef Zauschner,
18th century botanist and medical professor
(this plant seems to go back and forth between the two genera!)
