Lunar New Year Festival
January 25, 2020 |
Riverside Lunar Festival marked the beginning of the year of the rat, which is the first sign in the Chinese zodiac cycle.
People born in the Year of the Rat are said to be wise and intelligent; imaginative, witty and curious; resourceful; diligent and thrifty; affectionate, sentimental and passionate. This year, Lunar New Year, or Tet as it is known in the Vietnamese community and Seollal to Koreans, falls on Jan. 25, a Saturday. Dependent on the timing of the second new moon after the winter solstice, sometimes it occurs in January, other years (such as in 2019) not until February. Lunar New Year is celebrated globally, an outgrowth of the Chinese New Year whose traditions took root and carried on in places with strong ethnic ties to China - from Vietnam to the Philippines to North America and elsewhere. Southern California, with its large and multi-generational Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean immigrant populations, is home to some of the oldest and most popular public celebrations of Lunar New Year. —OCRegister.com |
